CDI

The Chiropractic Development Initiative (CDI) began in June 2010 as a 10 year commitment to positively affect changes in statute, regulation, as well as government and public perception, based on 3 beliefs:

1. We believe that the people of Texas should be afforded the full benefit of chiropractic care based on the level of education, training and experience of the Doctor of Chiropractic.

2. We believe that the people of Texas should be afforded access to chiropractic care free of restrictive limitations or discriminatory payment provisions.

3. We believe that chiropractic doctors in Texas should be afforded the level of authority, respect and esteem equal to the dramatic impact they make on the healthcare system.

Why Should I Support the CDI?

CDI protects and promotes your rights and your patients’ rights. You benefit, whether you adjust one bone, every bone, or no bones at all. If you practice chiropractic, in any form or fashion, you benefit and your patients benefit.

The CDI is a long-term plan, which means that it will require continued and sustained support from doctors, patients, vendors and institutions. The CDI must be a sustained and continual forward movement for our profession and the patients we serve. The CDI will require massive and continuous action, grass-roots efforts and financial contributions. You don’t have to be a DC to contribute to CDI! Any patients, companies, and/or institutions, that support chiropractic in Texas is welcome to donate. Whether you make a one-time, annual, monthly or quarterly donation, your CDI contribution is tax-deductible. CDI means banding together for the “greater good!"

The 100 x 100 Challenge

The TCA is currently appealing the decision in the Texas Medical  Association (TMA) vs. Texas Board of Chiropractic Examiners (TBCE) lawsuit. Last year, the Travis County District Court ruled that TBCE board rules allowing DCs to diagnose, treat nerve and treat the subluxation complex exceeded scope. TCA plans to fight to overturn this decision, but we need your support through CDI. To appeal this over and over it will take at least $100,000 in legal fees per year, every year. As a result, we are asking for your help by signing up for our 100 x 100 challenge!
We need 100 doctors donating $100 a month for the next three years or to make a one-time $2,500 donation.
Help us protect chiropractic in Texas!

What Has Been Achieved So Far?

Congratulations, Texas chiropractors! Because of your contributions over the past year, the 85th Texas Legislative Session was TCA’s most productive in decades. Your contributions allowed TCA to allocate additional resources to our advocacy efforts in Austin. As a result, Gov. Greg Abbott signed into law three bills that positively affect chiropractic:

  • SB 304 clarifies that DCs may lawfully diagnose the biomechanical condition of the spine and musculoskeletal system of the human body. It also eliminates facility registration (and associated fees), streamlines the complaint and investigations process, and continues TBCE until 2029.
  • HB 3024 allows a DC to remove a student-athlete from University Interscholastic League competition or practice for a suspected concussion.
  • SB 379 allows DCs to form business entities with medical doctors, osteopathic physicians and podiatrists.

There's plenty to celebrate, but there is still work to be done.

Join the fight for Texas chiropractic by supporting CDI!
